When you're at the page in Disk Utility where you set the partition sizes, be sure to select the option to install OS 9 Drivers. Note (2) - didn't see this in the list from Support above. Note (1) - whenever OSX has been installed, be sure to have/use DiskWarrior version 2.1 or higher. Once that's done, and before installing any software, would be the time to run DiskWarrior to ensure the new partitions are as healthy as can be. I'd use Disk Utility, on the OSX Install CD, to wipe and partition the drive. Don't it's even capable of partitioning a drive. My only question now is: If I own Disk Warrior, is there any value to using it in this process? Or just stick with OSX's utilities?ĭiskWarrior is primarily a repair utility, rather than a general purpose disk utility - thoug used regularly it can catch things and fix them before any damage causes starnge behaviors. To chnage between OSX and OS9, select Sys Prefs, Startup Disk, chnage to OS9, Restart. but OS9 partition is a bootable partition also. Back to "Startup Disk" option, re-select OSX. (this blesses the Sys 9 folder on Partition B.Ģ4. "rebless" this system folder: go to Apple menu, System Prefs, Startup Disk. Now drag System 9 folder to Partition B.Ģ2. Select "Install All Components" (all 4 CDs) (this will include installation of 9.2.2, but as you noted, it will only allow it to go onot Partition A, or wherever OSX is)Ģ1. this installs "restore" utility on hard drive.Ģ0.

I haven't had the opportunity to take a look at the CD's that come with the MDD G4's, so don't know for sure - but I believe there is an OS 9.2.2 installer lurking there somewhere - perhaps in a separate folder on one of the OSX CD's. Had to re-connect a few aliases, but that just takes a bit of time. However, it usually does work with OS 9's - the last four times I did that (with both OS 9.1 and OS 9.2.1 in the last year) it worked flawlessly. Drag-copying an OS from one volume (drive or partition) to another will not work with OSX - CCCloner was developed because of that. This is not recommended practice, but many of us do it all the time - drag-copy the existing OS 9.2.2 to the other drive, partition the first drive, then drag-copy it back.

Don't know if OS 9.2.1 would be a suitable start point (it could then be updated by download update) if so, it's available from the Apple Store, but only by telephone order.
